Minimalism décor style is simple and clean. Usually baring neutral colour palettes and focusing on space, lighting and simple shapes for decorating the room. This style of decor draws its appeal by creating a serene room without clutter, that helps to promote a calm and relaxing environment.
Everything in its place
Firstly, it’s important to understand the practicality of minimalism. Everything that’s in the room as a purpose and everything has its place. In order to get to this point, you likely need to declutter your stuff. Sometimes this can take an afternoon or sometimes it can take weeks! But don’t let this dishearten you, start with 1 room and go from there. You don’t need to become Marie Kuando overnight to be able to create a beautifully streamlined and organised space.
Start with 2 simple questions. Do I use it? And, Do I need it? If you’re not sure on either of them, put them in a ‘maybe’ pile and over the next few weeks, see what you go back for in that pile to use. Give yourself a time limit. If it’s not used by that time, donate or sell it!
Once you have whittled it down, it’s time to start organising!
Selecting the right furniture
Sleek and functional furniture pieces help to maintain that simple yet clean look. Our personal favourite for this vibe is the Morton range. It has 3 pieces in the range - a tall 2 door wardrobe, bedside table with 2 drawers and a 4 chest of drawer unit.

The reason why they’re our favourites for minimalist design is because the lines are clean yet there is added detail and texture in the handles which are tan faux leather handles.
For beds, the Oxford style has beautifully clean lines with a great under bed storage as well, adding to the functionality which is highly important for a minimalistic space.
Exploring calming colour palettes
When most people think about minimalism, they often think of huge white rooms with hardly any furniture, and whatever furniture they do have, it’s also white! Think Kim Kardashian’s Architectural Digest house tour in 2020! Whilst sometimes that is the case, it doesn’t have to be. The Morton range comes in 3 colours - white, grey and black. You can create a clean and calming environment with any of these colours.
Adding pops of colours with wall art, cushions and florals will add focal points to the room without being overpowering. If you’re going for white as your furniture colour, blush pinks and sage greens make great accompanying tones. With all black furniture, you can go deeper with pops of colours - navy blue, burnt orange or mustard yellow. Grey can be paired with lots of colours but like anything, it's all about getting the tone right, however it makes a perfect base to pair with neutral beiges and whites.
Incorporating storage solutions without compromising on style.
Versatile storage solutions are very important to keeping a tidy space. Multipurpose furniture like beds that have storage solutions or wardrobes that have shelves to maximise space like the ones we’ve touched on in this article.
We absolutely love putting things in boxes and baskets to maintain items in their category and space as a great way of organising. It doesn’t have to be fancy and new either! There’s likely a delivery box hanging around somewhere in the house - you can use it to start to organise your things and once you’ve found your groove with it and are happy with the categories and items you’ve organised, then you can make the commitment to new fancy baskets if you want to.
Remember minimalism is about having the least amount of ‘things’ as possible and everything that you do own, has its place to be put back in. The amount of possessions you need will be different to someone else. There is a balance to getting rid of all of your things to fit in the basket, and realising that you actually just need a bigger basket!
Additionally, these are things that are going in to the furniture so it doesn’t have to look simple, clean or pretty!
Conclusion
To recap, minimalism is about creating clean and simple spaces and removing the clutter. Keep your possessions organised in baskets and containers without compromising on style by using multipurpose furniture, like the Morton bedroom range or Oxford bed set, to keep those boxes out of sight. Add small pops of colour with wall art, simple design cushions and florals to create texture and intrigue into the space.
