Round Dining Tables

Why choose a round dining table?

A round dining table encourages conversation, because nobody sits at the far end. It also takes up less visual space than a rectangle of the same capacity. In a square room, it leaves an even walkway on every side.

Consider a typical flat with a dining corner next to the kitchen door. A rectangular table can push one chair into the door swing. A small round dining table of 100cm frees that path and still seats four people.

The shape also suits families with young children, as there are no table corners to bump into. For more shapes and sizes, compare all our dining tables in one place.

Choosing the right size: tables for 4 or 6

Size is the first decision when you choose a round dining table. On our range, a round dining table for 4 measures 100cm across. The Livorno, Rocco and Modena all come in this size, which fits most kitchens and small dining areas.

A round dining table for 6 needs more diameter. The 120cm versions of the Livorno, Rocco and Modena are listed as 6 seaters. The Livorno product page, for example, presents its 120cm model as a 6 seater round dining table.

The black Tokyo Japandi table measures 120cm in diameter, and its product page says it seats four to six chairs comfortably. The natural Tokyo is listed as a 4 seater. With the 120cm models, these are the closest options to a large round dining table in this collection. Allow at least 90cm of clear floor around the table for chairs to slide back.

If you host larger groups only a few times a year, an extending model may suit you better. Our extending dining tables adjust their length when guests arrive.

Materials and finishes

A round glass dining table keeps a small room feeling open, because light passes through the top. The Livorno has a clear glass top with a choice of black or chrome steel legs. Glass wipes clean easily but shows fingerprints, so a microfibre cloth helps.

For a stone look without the weight, a round marble dining table in marble effect is a practical choice. The Modena pairs its marble effect top with black starburst legs. The Rocco uses the same base with a concrete effect top. If you want a tougher surface for daily family meals, compare them with our ceramic top dining tables.

For a warmer round dining table, look at the Tokyo, which has a wood veneer top and a fluted pedestal base. It comes in natural or black. A black round dining table like the black Tokyo suits Japandi and industrial interiors alike.

Pairing your table with chairs

A round dining table and chairs combination works best when the chair style echoes the base. Slim metal legs on the chairs match the starburst and steel bases of the Rocco, Modena and Livorno. Curved velvet backs soften the lines of a glass top.

Armless chairs tuck further under a round top, which saves space when the table is not in use. Many households build the set two chairs at a time. Our dining chairs sold in pairs make it easy to reach four or six seats.
